I came back to Sweden this morning after a five week long vacation trip down to Australia and New Zealand passing many security checks. The trip looked something like this..... Stockholm - Chicago - Los Angeles - Auckland - Sydney - Alice Springs - Darwin - Cairns - Brisbane - Auckland - Los Angeles - Chicago - Stockholm. During this trip I always carried my LowePro ProTrekker AW, fully loaded with to SLR's with lenses and the Hasselblad stuff as well. The only airport to use a template was Chicago domestic terminal where the harness on the backpack cause some disagreement between myself and the person behind the x-ray machine, but eventually it all worked out just fine. This where also the only place where anyone had any comments about the bags size. As for manual check of the carry-on film, Stockholm/Arlanda claimed there x-ray to be film safe, so I took their word for it (as stupid as it might have been). The only other misfortune I had was in Brisbane where the guy working in security basically regarded me as a royal pain in the ass, for making him check the film manually. Then for some reason he disappeared for a while, leaving the film at the side of the x-ray machine, and before I even realized it his colleague came out of nowhere, showed all the film into the machine and let it though. As I was picking up all my film from the conveyer-belt the security guy came back yelling at me that he wasn't finished clearing it, and stared pulling the film out of my hands. When I finally got him to understand that his partner just x-rayed all my film by eventually shouting back at him, all I got in return was a self pleasing smirk on his face. All in all, it went quite smooth, but beware of Brisbane security. /Magnus Lirell >-----Original Message----- >From: RICH [mailto:leicaman@email.msn.com] >Sent: Sunday, October 22, 2000 7:44 PM >To: hasselblad@kelvin.net >Subject: Carry-on > > > >The big problem with the new regulations is the fact that you >never know >when they will be enforced.
