I don't think anyone is doing anything to replace the viewfinder. It's fine. There's and older and newer version. The lens covers the bottom third of the view. People use a ground glass back to see the whole thing with a tripod. Leveled and all that. it's got a prism for it that works far better than other prisms designed for a top groundglass. As you know, any Hasselblad viewfinder will fit the SWC in combination with the ground glass back. That includes the meterprisms. > I don't think anyone is doing anything to replace the viewfinder. The finder i think you're referring to (the RMfx) is a reflexfinder, not a prism. It will show the image right side up, unlike the prisms. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Nov 2000 11:50:18 -0800 From: "Williams, Bill" To: "'hasselblad@kelvin.net'" Subject: RE: Viewfinders and superwide 903SWC Message-ID: <372CE1E089C8D21184F500902716D25C02037794@Mail2.city.surrey.bc.ca> Use a ground glass back, a chimney finder, and stand on your head..... You could use a metered finder on the back in place of the chimney finder, but the orientation would still be incorrect. The meter could work though, if callibrated for the ground glass back. Hi Leo, What are these rocky Xpan sales? My impression (which I get from some pretty high volume dealers) is that it is a big seller by Hasselblad standards: certainly far higher than the 200 series which many pro dealers don't even bother stocking?? BTW It is also a very good camera with excellent lenses which would not be any better had they been produced by Zeiss themselves IME. Digital is clearly the way forward for most pro photographers and as Hasselblad is keen to be at the forefront of digital (which is where the bulk of photo equipment profits are or very soon will be) they need to do what it takes: they are not going to be able to develop some of the core technologies in-house so it makes sense to be associated as closely as possible with whatever they perceive is reaching the needs of their target audience best whilst they are still a force in the pro market. In a few years they might otherwise find themselves like Leica which is a glorious has-been in the pro-market: doesn't stop me using them in my work but I am sure their days are numbered. Which leads me back to the Xpan - very inconvenient for scanning on my Nikon scanner and where is the MF scanner we all need? Could it be the forthcoming polaroid MF? Will that bridge the digital divide for us traditionalists for a year or two? Or must we jump on the Foveon bandwagon??
