For my part, I'm glad to have the opportunity to see that I can purchase a 12 back for $100, or even a serviceable A24. Not only has this list been a big help to me on the technical side, but it has also enabled me to buy and sell gear so that I have a rig that suits my needs. I'm happy to see lists of items, with prices, most any time. Even a constant stream of "you are rude" back and forth on the list between Henry and Rich is tolerable, though, in my case, I'm not impressed by this aspect of their decorum. Again, I'm very happy at the services they offer, but wish they would refrain from using the general list for yelling at one another, when they could just send each other these nasty messages. On the other topic, lately I've been working on what I would calling "near/far" portraits. In these cases, I either have the people close and some distant scene behind them, such as a landscape, or I have an item of interest, such as flowers, close to the lens and the folks further away. I've been using my 150mm at f8. The results have been less than outstanding. In general, I think I'm lacking depth of field. I'm considering switching to my 80mm for these shots, and checking my depth of field and exposures more carefully. Has anyone else done this sort of shot? I may also ask Tom Stark on the zuga.net chat board, as he posts images of this type every now and then. Peter ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Apr 2001 08:24:32 -0700 From: "Daniel K. The 12 back usage involves using the markings on the paper backing. I have owned a "12 back", and found it excellent. I did abandon it in favor of a new A12, but only due to the age and that fact that I had two and only use one. DO you care anything about physical appearance? The one I have is A-12. And it's badly scratched, but works. Physical appearance doesn't bother me as long as the gears and internal stuff works. Also that the dark slide isn't dented. But that can be replaced. > Am I assuming right that you managed to solve the problem with the blank > film ? Eduard, I'm surprised you remember the problem of the blank film. Put the hassie up for a year and now have the urge to try it again. It could even have been a problem with Ritz lab. Have a new lab in mind down in Ft. Lauderdale (mail order). They are supposed to be very good. And yes, to all, that is a very good price ($100) for an A-12. Will definitely look into it. What say you Henry, Is this tongue-in-cheek? Even this avenue gives Henry the luxury of being able to answer that question after the fact. I can understand Henry not being in favor of commercial ads on any photo list. Ads on a list give each poster the same exposure as those from the giant marketer. B&H's ad budget allows them to place the multipage ads in the slick publications, whereas Rich would likely only place a small classified. Quite understandable and proper. It's a case of size and size alone. Commercial ads are on both Leica lists and I hear no gretzing about it. The reason they're well accepted is that they are reasonable, once a week only, and done in good taste. Dan has put forth reasonable criteria for these ads, and, I'm sure, is monitoring them for adherance to those criteria. -- Roger, List-Owner The LEG (Leica Enthusiasts Mailing List) http://www.topica.com/lists/leica ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Apr 2001 21:09:10 EDT From: BobR38@aol.com To: hasselblad@kelvin.net Subject: Re: Henry Posner's THREATS Message-ID: --part1_c0.12e739d9.280f94b6_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi All, I hope these side-tracked email messages stop soon. If there was no "arguing" as you put it, the list would be blank. You would be sending test messages to see if the list still works. All of this "talk", whether asking, answering, or arguing, is in pursuit of all things Hasselblad. Extracurricular excursions never last more than a couple of days. The best way to derail boring conversation, is to ask an interesting question, so that the folks "arguing" have something else to pursue. So, arguing or answers, it's up to you...
