According to Zeiss' tests, a while is 15 minutes (wrinkles are probable) up to 2 hours (wrinkles are certain to appear), depending on film and back used. I have a 4504 which I was trying to prove was good enough without an external battery pack.

I just bought a new battery holder for $28 and 6 nimh batteries at a local battery store (what a concept) for $2.89 each.  They are rated at 1600 mah each.

To test them for use at weddings, I tripped the flash on full manual and got 120 flashes in 10 minutes before the recycle time went over 6 seconds.

By the time I got to 140 flashes it was taking 20+ seconds to recycle.

Much better than NiCd so far.
