Generally, with other medium format cameras not using Zeiss optics, this is true. In the early '80s, when I was looking to upgrade my then medium format system (Mamiya TLR), I researched all the medium format systems of the day. I did have a preference for Hasselblad, because of the square format, interchangeable backs, extent of the system, and its quality of manufacture, among other things, but one thing I that really sold me on Hasselblad was that its optics had the same resolution of professional level 35mm lenses like Canon or Nikon's: about 50 to 55 line pairs per millimeter. No other medium format SLR lens of that time came even close. One Hassie lens, the 100 f3.5 Planar, even resolved 75 lpmm at f11 to f16! Needless to say, I've been with Hasselbad ever since. So, if you want to use a 'Blad lens on 35mm, go ahead. The image will be as good in the corners as a standard 35mm lens is in the center. -- Patrick Bartek NoLife Polymath Group bartek@intermind.net ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Jun 2001 00:22:26 +0200 From: "Eduard Crombie" To: Subject: RE: ringflash Message-ID: > From: gef [mailto:gerard@gferry.freeserve.co.uk] > > i have a 51489 ringlight. does anyone know anything about it > and can i get a power pack its 3 pin! > best regards > gef Hallo Gerard, The 51489 ringlight (called second version) has three types of connecting cords (Metz 402, Metz 202, Braun f800). I don't know anything about the 202 and f800 types. For the Metz 402 you have several options: - purchase a sec/hand Metz 402 battery/generator block (they surface on eBay now and then -with bust battery-but that can be 'remedied'). - the battery/generator block of the Metz System 60 CT1 or CT4 is very similar to the 402 block (almost the same - investigate) and also surface on eBay now and then for silly prices (low). I find the price of a new one a bit ridiculous :-) The 402 connector is in fact two wires. The middle pin is just a solid piece of plastic - no connections - that switches something when inserted into the power block and into the 'hammer flash'. You can do that even when the charge capacitor in the power block is fully charged. Kind regards and success, Eduard, Belgium. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Jun 2001 15:33:12 -0700 From: helenadick@worldnet.att.net To: hasselblad@kelvin.net Subject: Re: ringflash Message-ID: <3B23F5A8.24E5BE1E@worldnet.att.net> Eduard Crombie wrote: > > > From: gef [mailto:gerard@gferry.freeserve.co.uk] > > > > i have a 51489 ringlight. does anyone know anything about it > > and can i get a power pack its 3 pin! > > best regards > > gef > > Hallo Gerard, This ringlite is a favorite among the glamour fashion photographers. What they do is have the lite wired into the Norman 200 battery pack. Norman does this all the time. It gives extremely nice lighting for glamour-fashion.
