Or should I bite the bullet and look for a used NC-2? These are fine prisms; I have used them for the past decade on both Kiev 88 and Hasselblad. These guys are heavy but yield a bright image. The metered prisms are good; mine is within 1/3 of a stop. However, many need calibration to achieve this, and this is quite simple. Why do you say that you overpaid? Retail is approx. $275.00 and they routinely sell used in mint condition for $150.00 on average. If there is separation of the filter elements or if it is beaten to a pulp, then you overpaid. If it is in mint condition, you got a great deal! This is a fabulous filter! Place it on the front of your lens and read through your metered prism or adjust accordingly for exposure if you do not have a metered prism. Simply rotate the filter and watch for your desired "effect." It can make blue skies bluer (especially with Velvia) and add or subtract to or from reflective surfaces such as water, glass, metal, etc. You can take away a store front window's unwanted reflections and shoot the window's interior right through the glass. There are so many things that you can do with this wonderful filter. Ernst Wildi, arguably Hasselblad's leading authority on the product line, has stated in lectures that the polarizer is the only filter that he uses with his Hasselblad system. Check out the section about this filter in his book, "The Hasselblad Manual" (Fifth ed., Focal Press). Good luck with this creative tool! With the filter mounted on the lens, look through your viewfinder and turn the polarizer. It simply kills spectral reflections. It will make blue sky bluer, green foliage greener (kills the blue reflected from the sky), water look like water, etc. Go to: http://www.colorado.edu/physics/2000/applets/polarized.html to see how it works. And to: http://www.yorku.ca/eye/polarize.htm to read how it works. And: http://home1.gte.net/rhashiro/photo-polarizers.htm Jim At 09:52 PM 1/3/2002 -0500, Richard S.
