The 203 is by far my favorite. So my daughter inherited the 503. She's 19, lives at home, goes to college in= music and photography, so it hasn't gone very far away. Yet. The 203FE, as I have said before, a joy to use. The metering system seems to be dead on in all situations. The extended shutter speeds (1.5 sec to 34 min) come in handy as I use Velvia with a polarizer (landscapes) much of the time. I= do not have any FE lenses. Just CF, CFi, and the 40 & 80 CFE lenses. Using the light meter in the stopped down mode for all of my lenses except the 40 & 80 is not a problem. It is also nice to have the lens shutter for those deadly= focal plane speeds of 1/4 through 1/30th second. This is important for close-up= and telephoto work. The half shutter speeds (manual) and 1/12th shutter speeds (automatic) are wonderful for allowing you to keep a constant f/stop to maintain a particular DOF. With the E film backs, bracketing is accomplished by simply turning the ASA dial on the film back. Your shutter speed changes appropriately, your f/stop remains constant. Cool feature. For some reason the 203 and I have "bonded". Sounds silly I know. But there seems to be a synergy that improves my confidence level, which, as a result, seems to improve my results. I think it is trust. I completely trust the 203 system of operation. And it seems to be intuitive. It's usually something you only do once, so this shouldn't be a deterrent to a good 500 C body... >> Yes, if you want a Proscreen or a Beattie screen for example. I used a 500C as a backup for a long time into which I had installed a Beattie screen. I like the Acute-Matte much better. Not quite as bright but much better contrast for focusing. If you want a Hasselblad Acute-Matte screen put in a 500C you will need to find someone willing to remove it from its metal frame without breaking or scratching it. You might have more trouble finding someone to do that for $30. Add to that the likely cost of a body service on an old 500c, and a late-model 500CM becomes less of an economic stretch. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Feb 2000 14:48:20 -0500 From: Austin Franklin To: "'hasselblad@kelvin.net'" Subject: changing screens on a 500C... [Austin] If you trust someone to take your camera or lense apart to work on the intricate insides, and get it back together correctly, taking the screen out of the little metal frame should not be much of a task. If they couldn't do that, I wouldn't let them touch my camera in the first place... ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Feb 2000 14:56:34 EST From: InfinityDT@aol.com To: hasselblad@kelvin.net Subject: Re: 503CW Vs 202/203 Message-ID: <48.13a0f64.25cdda72@aol.com> In a message dated 2/5/00 10:13:17 AM Eastern Standard Time, artcheng@netvigator.com writes: << I am thinking of getting a Hassy. Were it not for the latter, I would use a Flexbody for the ability to tilt the front standard (Scheimpflug principle) to increase DOF. The pace at which landscape photography goes, I never felt the need for a built-in meter. I prefer a handheld spotmeter. Figuring filter factors is never a problem (most of the time I just dismount the bayonet filter and put it in front of the meter), and I use the Mutar and Proxars for close-up magnification. A bellows or tubes are just more than I want to carry. I never considered a focal-plane shutter model, because for outdoor portraiture and also macro shots the ability to sync the leaf shutters up to 1/500 for daylight fill is a major advantage. The TTL/OTF is also appreciated in that setting, although doing it manually really isn't a major challenge. In a similar vein, prisms over the years have been made by outside contract. Attachments for Hasselblad, Rollei and even Linhof bear more than a passing resemblance to each other. It is simply too expensive to tool-up independently for low volume items. That's just good business sense. Notice how the hard cases for Hassy, Linhof and Rollei have been identical over the years? Yep, one company with different inserts and dimensions for each client. I think that the same may be true for rigid hoods on both Hassy and Rollei SL. ------------------------------ End of hasselblad V1 #786 ************************* ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The Hasselblad Users Group Listserv is a public service of Absolute Internet, Inc., which is not responsible for its content.
