I went for the 203, and have never regretted it. The way I looked at it was as follows: 203: "Pro" * Does everything 503CW does (winder option, OTF flash, high-speed flash sync with C/CF/... lenses) * Provides option of TTL metering & hi-speed focal plane shutter, long duration time exposures (to 34 minutes), ease of exposure compensation (with "arrows" on LH side) * The FE lenses... particularly the 110 F2 203: "Con" * Price (figure an extra $3800 for the body!... over a 503CW) * Carry an extra battery (although it can work like a 503 without one) In a nut shell, this was the logic that drove me. It was a big gulp to spend all of that extra money for the body... but I'm glad I did now. I kept my old 500CM for 25 years; I'll probably keep this one as long. Go out and try (or rent) both. See if one feels more "natural" than the other to you. Both cameras are superb picture taking instruments. Pro - a LOT cheaper, winder, FP sh utter + high speed flash sync with C/CF lenses..and the F lenses are a LOT cheaper than the FE lenses. Con - no meter in body, no OTF, no long exposure control. I must admit, I have been tempted for years to get a 20x because of the built-in meter...and auto this and that, but I really found that I wouldn't use those features any more than I don't use them now...so it just seemed like a lot more money for 'nice' features that I, personally, wouldn't really use. The PME3 meter prism has always been right on, and for a few hundred dollars, I could buy a REALLY nice hand held spot meter....if I needed to...I usually just move in close to the subject, meter with the PME, and back up to take the shot...works every time! If you feel the additional features of the new 20x would serve you very well (or you have a lot of money, and just like them ;-), than that's obviously the camera for you...but I would suggest strongly considering if you really need them, especially for the extra $3000 it'll cost you over a 2003FC/W plus PMEx meter finder... At least that's what I've been told and have read. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Feb 2000 02:57:38 EST From: Gdoces@aol.com To: hasselblad@kelvin.net Subject: 30mm F-Distagon Repairs Message-ID: I understand that there are very few 30 F-Distagon Fisheye lens in use, but I have a question which someone in the group may be able to answer. I recently sent a 30mm lens to Hasselblad in NJ asking for an estimate to re-coat the black baffeling in the interior portion of the lens. The baffeling or black coating has begun flaking and it appears that it will get worse without repair. Anyway, Hasselblad USA wrote back and said that they would have to send the lens to Sweden for such an estimate. What I can't understand is why they can't just tell me what it will cost to re-coat or re-surface this black baffeling. I can't believe that this is a first time situation for them. They must have had other such repairs work and should be able to give my a "ball-park" estimate. Has anyone had a similar problem with the 30mm F-Distagon or other baffeling problems with other Hasselblad lenses? Thanks. ------------------------------ End of hasselblad V1 #787 ************************* ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The Hasselblad Users Group Listserv is a public service of Absolute Internet, Inc., which is not responsible for its content.
