Evans" To: "Hasselblad" Subject: Newbie Questions Message-ID: <001701bf91c2$2e2bd250$7515d986@mokraoevans.beckman.com> Hello everyone, I hope that some of you can help me. I was recently given the gift of a Hasselblad 500 C/M; A-12 back; PME prism viewfinder; Regular focusing hood and Acute Matte screen and an CF 80/2.8 Planar lens. I'm in seventh heaven and it came with an instruction manual so I am now familiar with the controls and operation of the camera. I have been an amateur photographer for over 30 years and hence my questions will be due to unfamiliar ground. [1] The manual says to set the sensitivity on the A-12 to one half of the ISO of the film when using the Acute Matte screen with the PME viewfinder. Does the film speed and type indicator on the A-12 actually influence anything when you turn the chrome wheel to different ASA/ISO's ? [2] What size of print does one ask for at the developer's when one takes a film in for processing ? Not enlargements, just regular proof prints. [3] Will a Sekonic 308B II meter suffice my requirement for a light meter without breaking the limited bank ? [4] Which Proxar lenses will allow me to get 1:1 reproduction ratios with the 80 lens for floral photography ? The extension tubes and 120/4 Macro lens are not in my budget at this time. [5] Which carrying strap do you recommend from Hasselblad ? [6] I have an SB-26 flash that I use with my Nikon F5; can I connect it to the CF 80/2.8 and what is the recommended connector? Thankyou for your help. Owen P. Evans "By concentrating on precision, one arrives at technique; But by concentrating on technique, one does not arrive at precision! The older A12 magazines have a film-speed indicator on the back side that is just a reminder of what you have loaded and does not influence anything. There is also a film magazine A12 TCC/E12 CC that was introduced with the 205TCC body; this has a dial on the side of the magazine that conveys to the body the speed of the film through electronic contacts. 2. 4"x4". 3. Yes, if you don't want to use the meter built into the PME. 4. None, used one at a time. You can stack them for greater magnification, but the optical quality will suffer. The greatest magnification will be with a Proxar 0.5, and this will give you 0.25 magnification with the 80mm lens. You would need a 56mm + 16mm tube to get to 1.0 magnification. If you don't want to buy these, many professional camera stores will rent them for about $4 per day per tube. 5. part no. 59110, the standard strap. 6. Yes, use the pc connector. -Fritz ----- Original Message ----- From: Owen P. All of this information is very helpful and appreciated. A few more questions: 1. Has anyone dealt with "Kiev Camera" in Atlanta. There prices appear to be as good or better than most. I have read that Kiev USA may not actually do any modifications on the 88 bodies that they claim/advertise. 2. Do any of the Hasselblad 12 backs work on the Kiev 88? 3. Would the Hasselblad PME-90 meter prism work on a Kiev 88 body? Finally, I have read on Delphi some rather negative comments regarding the cloth shutter curtain. Anyone have any preference between the metal and cloth? Once again, Thank you all for your help. He did say he did not have it in stock and had to get it out of the Ukraine so it proably wasn't all his fault. They can be seen at: http://www.kievusa.com/hassystuff.html Does the grip with the hotshoe also have the PC Cord I assume? Any word on the reliability of these items? Thanks for the tips with the viewfinder. I also am wrestling, after using both, whether or not I prefer to use the eye level or waist finder for square composition. John John R.
