How to Connect to #addisneyland
Section 1
Getting to IRC and joining the channel #addisneyland.
IRC (which stands
for Internet Relay Chat) is a system of networks set up across the globe, which
allows for text to be sent simultaneously to any of the users connected to it.
Usually users congregate in different IRC channels. These channels serve much
like the channels on a TV or Radio, whereas they differentiate certain topics
and discussions on the network. In #addisneyland the topic of choice is of course
Disneyland LESBIANS!
The first thing that anyone needs to connect to IRC is an ISP or LAN connection to the Internet. It is generally assumed that if you are reading this document you have access to the net. If you need help determining if you have access to the Internet and IRC contact your service provider.
Once you have determined you have a connection to the Internet, the next step is to download one of several IRC chat clients. These programs allow your computer to interface with the IRC network. Most of them can be downloaded for free off the net, and come with instructions.
You can choose from these clients:
mIRC 5.x
– The most popular of the IRC clients:
http://www.mirc.com
pIRCh –
Another IRC chat client:
http://www.pirch.com
And finally, Ircle
- one for you Mac users out there:
http://www.ircle.com
Most of the users in the channel are familiar with mIRC but help with pIRCh is also available in the channel.
Once you download one of these programs, you may consult your documentation on how to connect to IRC.
To connect to #addisneyland you must connect to the CoolChat on IRC. Configure your irc client to connect to "irc.absolute.net" or "irc.coolchat.net". If you are an AOL user, you MUST connect to "irc.absolute.net".
Once you have successfully connected to a server, you will see that server’s Message of the Day (MOTD) scroll by. Once that is finished to join #addisneyland type without the quotes: "/join #addisneyland". The server will process your request and you will be dropped into our channel.
If for some reason you have a problem connecting to your IRC server please consult your documentation. If you can successfully connect to IRC and CoolChat but have a problem connecting to #addisneyland than feel free to email the ops in the channel at one of their registered email addresses. If you have a question about the CoolChat network, you can join #cc-welcome for help.
Section 2 – Channel Use
We keep an open mind and welcome all users into #addisneyland...
HOWEVER...
We also asked that you do not come into #addisneyland to troll, flame, harass, or pester. If you come into #addisneyland with the intent of angering the channel members you will be deemed a troll and removed without warning. Harassment is not acceptable for any of the members in the channel, new or otherwise.
Section 3 – Advanced Channel Use
There are several features that IRC allows it’s users to use, most of which are encouraged by the members of #addisneyland. But please keep these in mind.
DCC Chat – Use this to chat with other members in the channel privately. This is especially useful for when you and another member of the channel may be talking about something which is off topic or prohibited by the AOC. Conversations in DCC chat will not be monitored by channel ops and therefore no rules apply to them.
DCC File Send –
This feature allows two users to send binary file data to each other. There
are no rules regarding this except that it is always polite to ask before sending
a request to another user.
