How do I register myself with Tinkerbot?
The first thing you'll need to do is open a DCC Chat session with the bot. Once you have done that, just type "register <username> <password>" where <username> is the nick you want the bot to know you by, and <password> is the password you want to use for your account. You can get more information by typing "help register", or just type "help" for general help topics.

What do I do once I'm registered?
Well there are a lot of things you can do, and talking about it all here would take a lot of space. For a list of things you can set on the bot, type "help account" in a DCC Chat session and follow the instructions. If you want to setup your acount the easy way, just log in from the front page of this web site and click on the "Setup" link.

How do I read my notes?
The easiest way to read your notes is via the web site. Just log in from the front page of this site and follow the links to your notes. In a DCC Chat session, you can type "rn" to see a list of messages, folowed by either "rn <#>", where <#> is a number corresponding to one of your notes, or "rn n", which will display the next unread note. For a lot more information, type "help rn" or "help notes".

How do I send notes to other people?
Again, the easiest way to do this is via the web site, it's quite self-explanatory. If you prefer to do it via DCC Chat, or just have no choice, then just type "note <nick> <message>" where <nick> is the nickname of the recipient, and <message> is the text of the message you want to send. Also, for much more information, type "help note" for help with sending a note, or "help notes" for general notes help.

What's this I hear about forwarding notes to an e-mail address?
That's right, you can have your notes sent to your email address, or any email address, for that matter. To set an address to forward all notes to, type "setforward <address>", where <address> is the e-mail address that you want your notes forwarded to. To only send your current notes to an e-mail addres, type "forwardnotes <address>". Be careful when forwarding notes! If the email address you use is not valid for any reason, the notes will just disappear with no error message. Type "help forward" for more information.

How do I find out if someone has been on the channel lately?

The bot responds to "seen <nick>" via MSG and DCC Chat, where <nick> is any of the nicknames registered to the user you are looking for. You can also have this information displayed in public by typing "tink, have you seen <nick>?"

Please only use the public version of this command if several people would like to see that information. In most cases, it is best to just use the MSG or DCC "seen" command. Also be sure to type "help seen" for more information.

Tink is ignoring my dcc chat requests! What do I do?
Sometimes you may be behind a firewall and unable to send DCC Chat requests, or you just may be having a weird problem with your client or server. Just message the bot with the command "chat" and she will send a DCC Chat request to you.

Do I have to DCC chat Tink to use her commands?
Many commands work via both MSG and DCC Chat. If a command that does not work via MSG is received from you as a message, the bot will send you a DCC Chat request and will then send the information that way.

Is there an IDENT command so Tink will know who I am?
Not exactly. Everytime you send the "pass <password>" command, or login via the web page or telnet, the bot adds your current hostmask to its list for your account. If you do not log in again with the same hostmask in 14 days, that hostmask will be deleted from your account.

Don't worry about anyone being able to duplicate your hostmask and pretend to be you either, since most commands require that your password be sent to the bot. Just make sire to keep your password a secret. If you want to change your password, you can use the "pass <password>" command, where <password> is the new password you want to use.

Tink isn't greeting me when I join the channel. What's wrong?
This could be due to a couple of things. First, you'll need to have the level "g" added to your account by an admin. This should be done very soon after you register, if the admins are paying attention, that is. Second, you have to set your greet lines on the bot. You can do this via dcc chat using the "addgreet" command, or you can do it via the web page using the "Setup" page. Finally, the bot needs to recognize your hostmask so she knows who you are. If you know that you are +g and you have set greet lines already, then maybe the bot doesn't recognize you from your current hostmask. To remedy this, just type "/msg tinkerbot pass <password>". The bot will add your current hostmask to its list for your account.

Remember, you have to be out of the channel for 5 minutes before the bot will greet you again.

I see a lot of people adding lyrics and responses to the bot. How do I do that?
Users with the "l" flag are able to create, delete, and edit the bot's responses. If you think you should be able to edit the bot's responses, ask an admin to give you the "l" flag, but bear in mind that we are not going to allow everyone this access, and we have plenty of people doing it for the time being. If you do have the "l" flag, then when you log in via the web page and click on the "Responses" link, you will be presented with options to edit, create, or delete responses.

I have the "l" flag, can you give me some guidelines on editing responses?
Sure. Please do not create public responses unless the text match is very specific, and the response has some kind of value. Please do not create frivolous private responses that cater only to you. This is a public bot for everyone in the channel, not your private toy. Please do not delete responses, or remove lines from responses, if you did not add them in the first place. If you notice a typo in a response, please feel free to edit that response to correct the spelling. Keep in mind that an admin may remove, without any notification, any responses that he/she feels should not be on the bot.

When I try to add a greet, it says I need to include "\n". What does that mean?
There are several special character combinations you can use in your greet lines, but one of them is required. The "\n" combination is replaced with your nick when you are greeted. For example, if your greet line is "Hi \n!" and you nick is "SaladLover", for example, then you will be greeted with "Hi SaladLover!". For other combinations, type "help addgreet" in DCC Chat or telnet.
